Rest, Renew & Explore
Stop and spend some time with yourself on a two day silent meditation retreat in Canberra. Taking time out from your normal routine for two days of stillness, with no responsibilities but to be yourself.
This retreat will largely be in silence. Guided meditations and talks will explore mindful intention setting to shape our thoughts, words and deeds in the coming year so we can live with greater wisdom and compassion.
This retreat is for people who have some experience of mindfulness meditation, such as Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction or equivalent. It is not an introduction to mindfulness.
We will be at The Gathering Place in Dickson, with full use of the venue and garden, including the labyrinth. Single room accommodation is provided or you can choose to attend during the day and return home at night. Delicious seasonal vegetarian catering provided.
This will be a silent retreat guided by Simply Mindful teacher, Trevor Heldt. There will be a retreat schedule each day which includes teaching and guided practices, and free time for personal practice and meals. Movement practices will be alternated with sitting and stillness. Movement practices include yoga, walking and self-directed movement.
You may choose from the residential and non-residential options. Both options include meals.
- Residential—on site single bedrooms with shared bathroom facilities. Rooms are simple and comfortable and include a single bed, linen, chair, desk and cupboard. Limited numbers.
- Non-Residential—stay at home overnight and join us for the day and evening programs and meals.
Fully catered, vegetarian fare. Gluten-free options available. If you have a very restricted diet (e.g. FODMAP), you are welcome to bring your own food, as we will have limited catering options. If you require alternative milk or bread please bring it with you.
Your teacher will be Trevor Heldt.
Trevor did his first MBSR course with Simply Mindful in 2006 and since then has attended numerous graduate practice groups and Cultivating Mindfulness courses. He has found that mindfulness provides him with both the mental and emotional space and calmness needed to balance a busy work and family life. His partner simply says that he is much easier to get along with! He practices mindfulness regularly, except when he doesn’t (and when that happens he begins again).
Trevor trained with the Mindfulness Training Institute of Australia’s Timothea Goddard and Bob Stahl in 2013 and 2015 (MTIA Registered Teacher) and the Centre for Mindfulness, University of Massachusetts in 2017 (CFM Qualified MBSR Teacher). Trevor has been leading practice groups since 2010 and teaching the MBSR program since 2018.
You must have completed a recognised quality MBSR course or equivalent in order to attend this retreat. Please feel free to contact us with questions or to discuss your meditation experience.
As with all Simply Mindful programs, self-care is a very important aspect of any retreat. You will be encouraged to do what is right for you throughout the retreat, whilst respecting the structure and purpose of the retreat. Whilst we encourage you to participate in as much as the program as possible, it is fine for you to opt out of certain practices, or do your own practice as long as it does not cause disruption to the group.
Caution: Although mindfulness, yoga and retreats are beneficial for most people they are not a substitute for medical or psychiatric treatment. Mindfulness retreats may not be suitable for persons with some health conditions. If you are currently receiving treatment for a serious physical health issue or psychological or psychiatric disorder, or have a past history of a serious physical health issue or mental health disorder, you should obtain professional advice prior to participating in the retreat.
