Join Simply Mindful in Glebe park (near the corner of Akuna St and the Gandhi Statue) in the city on Wednesday mornings in November and December for free mindfulness, as part of the City Renewal Authority ‘Renew You’ Festival.
These free Mindful Movement sessions are open to newcomers and experienced meditators. We’ll begin with some gentle mindful movement including yoga and walking meditation to nourish and care for your body and settle your mind. In the practice of Mindful Yoga we intentionally bring mindful awareness to the body as we move, stretch and breathe. The second half of the class will be a guided mindfulness meditation. Over the 8 weeks we’ll move through a range of mindfulness meditation practices to help you make a fresh start and move into your day from a place of greater awareness, clarity and centredness.
What is involved?
Mindfulness is well understood as a powerful and evidence based way to improve both physical and mental health. Learn to care for your body and mind, increase your ability to be truly present and aware. Come and practice mindfulness in movement and stillness with Canberra’s most well known mindfulness teachers. Each class will begin with gentle mindful movement to help attend to the needs of the body and settle the mind. Then we’ll move into a guided mindfulness meditation in stillness.
Mindfulness meditation is open to anyone and compatible with any belief system, since mindfulness is an innate human capacity. The practice of mindfulness meditation develops our capacity to be truly awake, present and aware in more of our days. This means we can draw on more of our intelligence, creativity and skill more of the time. This is particularly valuable in important relationships and work, as we tend to spend a lot of time preoccupied by the past and the future and not really present to what’s right here in front of us.
What to bring
Bring your face mask, water bottle, yoga mat, a cushion if you’d like to sit on one, and wear comfortable clothing that you can stretch and move in. Wear layers as it can still get chilly in the mornings.
We are committed to supporting the community we live and
work in and to sharing high quality mindfulness programs widely.
Every year we donate free and low cost mindfulness sessions and programs to charities, groups, schools and individuals who otherwise wouldn’t be able to access them.
We value quality, authenticity, diversity and accessibility.
