ActiveFree six-week online mindfulness course for mental health carers July – Sept 2021


Do you provide care to someone experiencing mental illness and/or psychosocial disability? Would you like to learn new skills to help manage the challenges uniquely experienced by carers #CaringThroughCovid?

Carers Australia is offering a free six-week online mindfulness course for mental health carers, with Simply Mindful. During 45 minute weekly sessions, Megan from Simply Mindful will teach you a range of practices and tips to help improve your wellbeing. In addition to the live sessions, you will be able to access a range of ‘on demand’ guided practices and other resources.

The second series of courses begin on Tuesday 27th July. You can join anytime during the 6 weeks.

Venue: The Gathering Place – face to face and online options available

In this gathering you can extend your mindfulness practice in a group setting as part of the Simply Mindful community.

Whether you’ve recently completed your MBSR course, would like to bring attention back to your mindfulness and meditation practice in a supportive environment; or would like to continue to deepen your practice, Simply Mindful would love to support you in this. Our Mindfulness Graduate Practice Group will meet with the Simply Mindful teachers for 8 Wednesday evenings this term.

Our teachers lead the group, providing an opportunity to participate in a range of practices. These include led meditation practices, silent meditation, walking meditation, mindful yoga, and at times short discussions about aspects of meditation. This term’s practice group will be led by Jenny Holmes and Trevor Heldt.

This six week program will focus on cultivating mindfulness and self-compassion together.

The science around self-compassion is very compelling. Self-compassion is a powerful tool for healing our relationship with our selves, parts of us that are fractured or wounded. It helps us to feel more at home in our own skin, safer, more supported more connected.  The inner resource of self-compassion is particularly helpful when facing difficulties and the pressures and strains of life. The more connected and present we are, the more energy we have for fully engaging in our lives. It leads to calm, reduces inner tension and conflict and helps us feel both cared about the caring. This naturally flows into our relationships with others and the rest of our lives.
