UpcomingTerm 2 Half Day Retreat – 29th May

Take time out of your normal day to deepen your practice and refresh body, heart and mind. This four hour silent retreat provides an opportunity to practice mindfulness under the guidance of experienced Simply Mindful teacher Trevor Heldt.

The retreat is a wonderful way to connect with what is important in your life and nourish health and wellbeing.

Mindfulness practice can help reduce stress, connect us with a strong presence and enable us to act skilfully, co-operatively and compassionately. Practicing as a community supports our ability to stay present as we practice, to stay connected and reminds us of our shared humanity.

UpcomingSelf-compassion 10th June 6 weeks

‘We can never obtain peace in the outer world until we make peace with ourselves’

(the Dalai Lama)

Cultivate a warm connected presence with yourself.

Feel deeply at home in your own skin.

This class will be offered both online and face to face (hybrid) this term, so you are welcome to join any class in person or online. We will inform you in the week before starting of important course information including hygiene or social distancing requirements. If you have questions, specific needs or concerns please don’t hesitate to contact us: info@simplymindful.com.au or 0490354900.

This six week program focuses on cultivating mindfulness and self-compassion together.

The science around self-compassion is very compelling.

Self-compassion is a powerful tool for healing our relationship with our selves, with parts of us that are fractured or wounded.

It helps us to feel more at home in our own skin, safer, more supported and  more connected.  The inner resource of self-compassion is particularly helpful when facing difficulties and the pressures and strains of life. The more connected and present we are, the more energy we have for fully engaging in our lives. It leads to calm, reduces inner tension and conflict and helps us feel both cared about caring. This naturally flows into our relationships with others and the rest of our lives.

Upcoming‘Desired Lines’ Art Exhibition

Simply Mindful is delighted to present this exhibition which will be face to face at our Dickson venue, the Gathering Place.

Come and view original works by Simone Annis exploring the concept of “Desired Lines.”

In urban and transport planning ‘desire lines’ refer to the unofficial paths that collective feet make through the landscape over time. These well-trodden paths are both subversive, being illicit, and conversely, the path of least resistance. Desire Lines are paths that form themselves and are evidence of both humanity and the impact of humans in the environment. The desired lines in these paintings are personal and reflective. The marks made by the paint brush, are lines with hindsight (hence the use of past tense). Expressing both what was yearned for in life and what has come to pass, as well as hinting at the unformed road ahead.

About the artist

Simone is an artist who has run an e-bike business from home for the past 14 years while raising three children and loves most things about living in the “People’s Republic of O’Connor” (Inner North, Canberra). You can see some of her work here.

All are welcome

Light refreshments will be provided. Entry is by donation.

This exhibition is open to the public. We require registrations so we can manage numbers and catering.

UpcomingSilent Evening Practice Session – June 27th

You are invited to join the Simply Mindful community for an extended period of collective silent practice. Unlike our silent retreats, this practice is not guided. One of our Simply Mindful teachers, Anthony, will hold space for the group.

If you have any questions about whether this session is suitable for you, please contact us.

Session format:

  • Short welcome and introduction. Bell is sounded to mark the beginning of practice.
  • 3  silent sitting periods with short (10 minute) movement practices in between. The invitation is for you to transition to movement (walking or yoga practice) or change positions during the short break periods, and to maintain stillness during the sitting periods.
  • Bell is sounded to mark the end of practice.
  • There is a short period for discussion and sharing after the end of the practices.

Participants who have taken an MBSR course will recognise this approach of mindfully attending to the body both in stillness and in movement. Participants new to this way of practicing yoga will discover a way of connecting to the body in a kinder and more conscious manner. All participants will cultivate their ability to attune and attend to wisdom of the body and mobilise their innate potential for growth and healing. Through the poses and stretches as well as using breathing and mindfulness meditation practices, participants will learn to cultivate a deeper, kinder, more resilient and conscious connection with their body and mind.
