Can I pay for my Simply Mindful program with NDIS funding?

News

Some of our participants do use NDIS funding to pay for our programs. Whether or not you can do so depends on the way the NDIS funds are managed in your specific plan.

If your plan is self-managed or plan-managed

NDIA participants who are plan-managed or self-managed sometimes choose to use their NDIS funding to pay for our programs.

We do not ask participants how they are paying for the programs, so this is purely a personal decision.

You have the option to discuss this with a LAC or NDIA planner, or to submit a claim on the NDIA participant portal if that is appropriate for your plan goals.

In order to use your NDIS funding to pay for a Simply Mindful program, you will need to register and pay for the program first. An invoice is automatically sent to you. You can then request reimbursement from your NDIS funds in the normal way.

Regardless of whether the NDIA reimburses you or not, a program must be fully paid for before you can take part in it.

Is Simply Mindful able to send invoices to my plan manager?

No, we are no longer able to send invoices to plan managers. In 2024, the NDIA made some changes to the list of allowed supports. Because of these changes and for other reasons, the financial cost, risk, and time investment is no longer sustainable for our small organisation.

It is the participant’s responsibility to communicate with their plan manager or with the NDIA to seek reimbursement.

What if the NDIA requires certain details before reimbursing?

Here are some additional details that you can provide to your plan manager or to the NDIA if required.

Simply Mindful ABN — 48 594 956 683

Term/support dates — You can find these in your confirmation email once you have registered.

What if I can’t afford to pay for a Simply Mindful program upfront?

We have a commitment to making our programs accessible to as many people as possible, even when people can’t afford the full fee (for example, health care card holders and full time students). To this end, we offer payment plans and discounted places.

You can contact us to apply for a payment plan, or let us know if you qualify for a discounted place.

How can I show the NDIA that a Simply Mindful program is aligned with my plan goals?

Generally, the description of a program on our website is very detailed. You can compare this description to your plan goals to see which parts are relevant.

Most of our programs, including Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, are based on solid research. There is a lot of evidence backing up the benefits of mindfulness practice.

If the NDIA asks for evidence that our programs will help you reach your plan goals, you can link them to our webpages and to research articles about MBSR.

Because your goals are personal to you, we can’t advise you on exactly what pages or resources to use. If there is something specific you need  that you can’t find on our website, please do contact us as we will do everything we can to help you.

If your plan is NDIA-managed

Simply Mindful is not an NDIS registered provider. This means that if your plan is NDIA-managed (also known as agency-managed), the funds cannot be used to access our programs, according to this explanation on the NDIA website:

https://www.ndis.gov.au/participants/creating-your-plan/ways-manage-your-funding

This limitation is because of the rules determined by the NDIA, and is not something that Simply Mindful can change.

We have no plans to become an NDIS registered provider at this time.

If you want to use your NDIS funding to pay for Simply Mindful programs, you could look into switching to plan-managed funding or self-management.
