We are delighted to announce a NEW yoga course, opening for the first time in 2024!
There is no one size fits all when it comes to our body shape, age or ability. This chair yoga class is designed to offer participants the opportunity to practice a series of yoga movements whilst seated in a chair. Towards the end of each practice there is a standing component for people to practice and improve balance with the support of a chair or nearby wall. Each session ends with a guided relaxation practice.
The addition of props such as yoga blocks or straps will be offered to enable movements and postures that are safe and meet your unique needs.
Suitable for seniors, beginners, people experiencing mobility issues, or who would prefer a practice where they to not need to get up and down from the floor, or you may be someone who wishes to get their body moving and embark on a yoga class that is welcoming and inclusive.
Yoga can be a life changing practice that provides the opportunity to improve mobility, strength and balance and learn breathing and mindfulness techniques to support the wellbeing of body and mind.
Your teacher will be Lesley Harris. Since completing her initial Yoga Teacher Training, Lesley has been drawn to learning how to offer a range of options to suit individual needs to ensure yoga practice is safe and effective. Her training has included Vinyasa Flow, Chair Yoga, Yoga for Healthy Aging and Yoga for Nervous System Resilience. Lesley is also an Accessible Yoga Ambassador having undertaken her training with the Accessible Yoga School.

Answers to your questions
What if I’ve never done yoga before?
The class is designed to cater for a broad range of abilities, including complete beginners.
What if I can’t get down on the floor at all ?
If you are able to sit in a chair, this class is appropriate for you, so it is not a problem if you are unable to get down to the floor.
Lesley is trained to teach yoga that is accessible and appropriate for a range of levels, which includes designing sequences that can be done wholly in the chair, a combination of chair and standing, or a combination of floor based movements and standing. Participants will be shown the options for each set of movements. Participants will also be offered the option to use props such as blocks and straps to support them in their practice.
Will there be standing during the class?
Yes, a part of the class includes flows with the option to sit (it can be done)! We will also practice a range of balance postures that can be done either with or without the support of a chair or wall. If participants need to be seated for the whole practice we can adjust our postures for this as well.
Am I too old to benefit from yoga ?
Definitely not, more and more mature aged adults are discovering the amazing mind and body benefits of yoga, which is backed up by a growing body of scientific research.
What experience do you have teaching elderly people ?
Lesley has taught in retirement villages and community sector settings for over 5 years with the eldest person being in their 90’s. Age is no barrier to your yoga practice. Lesley has undertaken a series of yoga teacher trainings to support her experience to include Chair Yoga, Yoga for Healthy Ageing, Yoga for Grown Ups, Chair Yoga for Brain Health and more.
