Reflections on Unplug Day

News

Unplug day was wonderful! Together we created a warm supportive community, slowed down and played with different forms of meditative practices.  Thank you to everyone who joined us on 3 August 2025. This was a nourishing morning of restorative practices, including guided meditation, yoga, meditative drawing, socialising, and a hearty morning tea. Keep reading for some reflections and photos (click on each photo to enlarge).

setting up

Heartfelt thanks to the small and wonderful team of staff and volunteers, who had yoga mats rolled out, tables assembled and sign in sheets ready by 10am…not to mention all the love that went into food prep, marketing, and scheduling. Ajith turned the Garden Room into an art studio, Lesley created a yoga haven and Val hung some gorgeous new paintings on the walls. We are so grateful to everyone who helped by sharing their expertise, time and energy.

and so it begins..

Our first guests trickled in, then a flood of people arrived! Around 50 people came to Unplug Day. Out of all the ways you could have chosen to spend a Sunday morning, you chose to spend it with us. It was so lovely to see each and every one of you, old friends and new.

Megan opened the day with a guided meditation and then we began some yoga and mindfulness practices.

Gravity Practice: meditation as deep rest

Caitlin Westropp led a gentle practice inviting participants to tune into their body and the subtle sensations of gravity at work to experience deep rest.

gentle yoga with lesley

Lesley facilitated a session of gentle, accessible yoga.

In the Garden

We were blessed with clear skies, although it was definitely still jacket weather. It was lovely to spend some time outdoors.

Crochet Circle

Crochet Circle was a cosy space where people chatted, relaxed, and worked on their own craft projects such as crochet or knitting. We loved the cosy relaxed vibe of this space!

Meditative drawing

Local artist Ajith Perera facilitated a meditative drawing session.

Morning Tea, socialising, more yoga, more meditation…

Everyone seemed to enjoy the mix of structured activities with the chance to mingle, chat, snack, or just simply be in the space, with encouragement to slow down and just do what felt nourishing. Thank you again for coming along, or if you missed out this time we hope to see you another time at the Gathering Place.
